Message from the President and Head of the Imperial House of Mandé

Every man has his land. And when destiny is tied to it, no human power can turn him away from it.
"This ancestral bond, woven through generations, embodies both a duty of memory and a living responsibility: that of preserving and transmitting the heritage of the Mandé peoples – a noble heritage, forged by the ideals and values that have shaped our common history. Although the Empire of Mali, as a political entity, has disappeared, its spirit endures, embodied in the institutions, principles, and traditions it has bequeathed to us. Faithful to the teachings of Soundjata Keita and the will expressed by the elders, I assume the role that has been passed down to me through the lineage of the sovereigns of Mandé, in accordance with customary traditions. The Keita dynasty, in its historical richness, has seen several branches emerge over the centuries. It is within its eldest lineage, as recognized by the tradition of Mandé, that this dynastic continuity is inscribed, a continuity which I have received the mission to uphold with fidelity and responsibility. I commit to preserving the essence of this heritage, to serving it and making it shine in our time.
This charge, which I assume with humility, consists of valuing, protecting, preserving, and embodying, in thought and in deeds, the imperial continuity of Mali, working in the service of the values of justice, fraternity, and solidarity that have always guided our ancestors. Having reached its peak under sovereigns such as Soundjata Keita and Mansa Musa, the Empire of Mali profoundly marked the history of West Africa. Born from the political wisdom of the Mandé peoples, as expressed in the Charter of Kurukan Fuga adopted in 1236, it rose through unity, tolerance, prosperity, and respect for traditions. But like any great civilization, it experienced decline, weakened by internal tensions and external aggression, despite the courageous leadership of the last reigning Mansa, Mahmud IV Keita, who worked to preserve imperial integrity against external threats until 1610.
The Empire endures in the cultures, memories, and commitments of those who today see in this heritage a profound source of inspiration and responsibility. It sowed an imperishable work: the peaceful spread of Islam, flourishing trade, and a brilliant culture rich in art, knowledge, and humanism. The Maison du Mandé, strengthened by men and women from diverse horizons, of all origins, faiths, and beliefs, now embodies this flame. It extends, in diversity and humility, the imperial ideals. It works for cultural unity, historical transmission, and solidarity among the Mandé peoples. This site is dedicated to this mission: to preserve and transmit the imperial values of Mandé through history, art, culture, and philanthropy. It is an invitation to rediscover our common past in order to better build, together, a future worthy of the imperial heritage of Mali."
